Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron today said that he is prepared to "forgive" the Chinese community in the state for not throwing their support behind BN in the last general election.
Malay broadsheet Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying that he wants at least 60 percent of the Chinese community there to return to the BN.
Idris also said that the perception that the Chinese are being punished for not throwing their weight behind the ruling party should end.
"When BN failed to form a government with a two thirds majority in GE13, many blamed the Chinese and that situation was also reflected in the MCA which did not allow their elected representatives to take up government positions, as though it was punishing the Chinese," he said.
"So as far as Malacca goes, if they want forgiveness, forgiveness I shall give them. What's more important is that they be with BN," he was quoted as saying.
