Penang Umno Youth lodge police report over “coup plot”

Penang Umno Youth today lodged a police report over the purported plan for a gathering on December 31 aimed at toppling the Federal Government.

Its head, Rafizal Abd Rahim, said the police should take immediate action to arrest the mastermind behind the alleged attempt to cause chaos in the country.

He said he had obtained information from Facebook yesterday of gatherings to be held on December 31 at the Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur and elsewhere in the country to overthrow the government.

"Following that, I have, as the representative of Penang Umno Youth, lodged a police report and seek immediate police action on the matter," he told reporters after making the report at the Seberang Perai Tengah police headquarters in Bukit Mertajam.

Rafizal said the government was democratically elected and it could not be removed by force, and such gatherings would only tarnish the country's name and frighten away foreign tourists.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was quoted as saying recently that the police viewed seriously the distribution of posters inviting the people to overthrow the government on December 31 and would investigate the matter. – Bernama,
