KUALA LUMPUR - The government still needs intelligence units including the Special Branch (SB) so that the country does not lack important information particularly on security matters.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar told Dewan Rakyat here today, the units are still needed for intelligence work although the country is not facing a war.
"Some people say that the SB is no longer important as the communist era has ended but funding of intelligence must continue so that we do not lack information," he said when winding up debate on the Supply Bill2014 for the Home Ministry.

Wan Junaidi said the suggestion to set up several intelligence units such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA ) in the United States was not needed.
"If we empower the SB and the military intelligence unit at our disposal, I am confident that they will be adequate (for intelligence work)," he added. – Bernama
