‘Why 32% spike of MyKad lost in GE year?’

Lim Lip Eng says that the sudden increase of MyKads lost in the election year opens “endless possibilities”.
KUALA LUMPUR: Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng has cast suspicions on the 32% spike in loss of MyKads reported for this year, saying that this reminds him of the alleged widespread electoral frauds that occurred during GE13.
Citing official statistics presented at Parliament a fortnight ago, he said a total of 565,157 MyKads were reported lost for the year, an increase of 136,020 reported lost MyKads compared to figures reported for 2012 with a total of 429,137.
Compared to previous years, there was only a 3% hike recorded in 2011 and 2012.
Lim said his suspicions were further strengthened and not helped by Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s statement to an English daily claiming the possibility that the lost MyKads were sold to foreigners through a syndicate.
“It is very tempting to associate the extraordinary high numbers with the occurrence of the GE 13 in May.
“Have they (lost MyKads) fallen into the hands of syndicates or have they been used by phantom voters or dubious voters that vote twice? It is open to endless possibilities,” he said, playing on the BN administration’s global tagline.
He urged the government to furnish a detailed breakdown of the lost MyKad statistics.
