Ismail Sabri denies M'sian products BOYCOTTED in China due to MH370 anger
PUTRAJAYA - The Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Ministry has not received any report pertaining to the boycott of Malaysian products in China, said its minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"I have not received any report and, until today, our (agricultural) ties with China remain strong, despite the tragic loss of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370," he said yesterday.
It was reported that the jetliner's disappearance en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur on March 8 had sparked an anti-Malaysianproduct campaign by the Chinese. There were 239 passengers and crew on board the plane, with more than two-thirds being Chinese.
Ismail Sabri said there were no issues raised over the export of Malaysian bird's nests to China, adding that raw, cleaned and edible ones were already exported there.
"I will be going to China soon for a meeting to discuss the possibility of exporting local raw bird's nests that have not been cleaned."
It is learnt that the meeting is scheduled to take place early next month, two weeks before Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's official visit to China.
On a report that the price of beef would be increased to RM40 per kilogramme in June following a drop in the number of imported cattle for slaughter, Ismail Sabri assured that there would be no shortage of supply.
"There is an adequate supply of frozen and fresh beef in the country to meet demand."
He said the reason for the drop in the number of imported cattle was partially because of the aggressive purchase by China from source countries, including Cambodia and Vietnam.
"This is why it is important to look to other source countries, such as those in South America, to import cattle or frozen beef." -NST
