Still reeling from the losses of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 and MH17 earlier this year, Malaysians were shocked today to hear that another plane had gone missing, this time AirAsia Flight QZ8501.
Social media users could hardly believe the news as they prayed together with the international community for the missing flight to be found with everybody on board safe.
Zaidel Baharuddin tweeted: "Tho (though) @AirAsia does not carry our nation's name like @MAS we are proud of it nonetheless, hence the pain and grief will be felt just the same."
Many like him took to Twitter and prayed for the safety of the 138 adults, 16 children, one infant, and crew made up of two pilots, four flight attendants and a technician on board the Airbus A320-200 jet. They also shared messages of hope that all will be well.

Shafiq Hussain wrote: "HeartBreaking News. AirAsia craft hilang diruang angkasa Kalimantan, Indonesia. please let everyone in flight safe #QZ8501 #AirAsia."
Rindy Duck (@iffahduck) shared a link to news of the missing plane and prayed from the flight to be found as soon as possible, while Walter Maverick wrote: "QZ8501. Be safe out there."
Brian Compton tweeted: "Thoughts and prayers for the people on the missing AirAsia flight."
Sri Lankan author Thisuri Wanniarachchi also wrote on Twitter: "My thoughts and prayers go out to the passengers crew and loved ones of all on board on Air Asia Flight QZ8501. Hoping for the best."
Air Asia boss Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, who is active on Twitter, thanked the people for their prayers and well wishes early this afternoon.
"We will be putting out another statement soon. Thank you for all your thoughts and prays.we must stay strong," he said in a tweet on 12.52am that was quickly retweeted by almost 1,900 Twitter users in just half an hour.
His tweet also received many replies, which came with more messages of prayers like Mohamad Khairul's "@tonyfernandes be strong tony. Our prayers with all onboard."

The plane belonging to the popular award-winning Malaysian low-cost airline was flying from Surabaya to Singapore, having taken off at 5.20am and was expected to arrive at its destination at 8.30am local time.
The aircraft was in the Indonesian Flight Information Region (FIR), more than 200 nm southeast of the Singapore-Jakarta FIR boundary, when it lost contact with the Jakarta air traffic control at 7.24am.
It has been confirmed that one Malaysian is on board the plane. There was one Singaporean, one Briton and one French as well as three South Koreans. The rest are Indonesians.
Search and rescue operations have been activated by the Indonesian authorities from the Pangkal Pinang Search and Rescue office.
This is the second incident involving a Malaysian airline losing contact and disappearing this year.
The first involved Malaysia Airlines (MAS) MH370 that dropped off the radar while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8. The plane and its 239 passengers and crew on board remain missing until today.
MAS also lost another plane, MH17, on July 17 when it was shot down by an air-to-surface missile in Ukraine while on route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. All 298 passengers were killed. – TMI
