PETALING JAYA - There’s no need to save Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak from the consequences of the 1MDB scandal, Raub MP Ariff Sabri asserts today in a message to “the Umno people who are still sane”.
In his latest blog entry, Ariff repeats his call to Umno members to recognise the “hypocrisy of Umno leaders”, using Taek Jho Low’s alleged deep involvement with 1MDB as an example of their cavorting with Chinese businessmen even as they tell the Malays not to trust that ethnic community.
“For what purpose should Najib be saved?” Ariff writes. “It’s not as if the Malay world will come to an end if Najib is no longer Umno’s leader or Prime Minister.”
He says it has become clear to “those with a little intelligence except Umno people” that Najib is taking steps to blame Jho Low and his cohorts for 1MDB’s RM46 billion debt.
“As usual, PM Najib, together with the 35 members of the Cabinet and two former 1MDB CEOs as well as current CEO Arul Kanda Kandasamy, will wash their hands and attribute the loss of the RM46 billion to 1,001 reasons,” he says.
“Blaming Jho Low will not wound him at all. He will continue with his romps in luxurious locations in Beverly Hills, sipping Pina Colada or Singapore Gin Sling, and partying in Paris and St Moritz and – listen to this – laughing all the way to untouchable banks in the Caymans or Switzerland.
“With all the disasters that have been wrought by the Number One Leader, my question is: what reason is there to save Najib?”
Referring to Najib’s father, Malaysia’s second prime minister, Abdul Razak Hussein, he says: “Pekan (the parliamentary constituency represented by Razak and now Najib) did not disappear from any map with the death of Tun Razak, who was a greater man than Najib in character, temperament and intelligence.” - FMT
