Law minister says government business includes new laws on tackling Islamic State
KUCHING: A proposed private member’s Bill to enable the implementation of hudud law or the Syariah Criminal Code Enactment in Kelantan may not be tabled in the current session of parliament.
The law minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Nancy Shukri said the government has to table several Bills in the current sitting of parliament from March 9 to April 9.
“The Speaker (Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia) has received the Private Member’s Bill on hudud but it is uncertain whether it will be tabled this time as the government has many bills to table including the Bill to combat the Islamic State militant group,” she said here.
On March 18, Kelantan menteri besar Ahmad Yakob tabled the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015) Bill to enable the implementation of hudud law in Kelantan. The Bill was unanimously passed one day later.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang filed notice with the Dewan Rakyat of his intention to table a private members’ Bill.
