Firdaus Abdullah warns MACC member that he might be tempted to spill the beans on him.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former DAP Vice Chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim has apparently bitten off more than he can chew in taking potshots at former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad who has questioned Najib Abdul Razak’s qualification to be Prime Minister and demanded that he step down. Mahathir’s beef with Najib is the scandal-ridden 1MDB, among others.
Former New Straits Times Political Editor Firdaus Abdullah, for one, has reminded Tunku Aziz in a series of tweets that those who stay in glass houses should not throw stones.
“Don’t be a political prostitute cos you have an axe to grind,” tweeted Firdaus who also blogs as Apanama. “Don’t let me shame you.”
“I am really not keen.”
He wonders whether he should be writing to tell the whole world what “Tunku Aziz the cry baby” did after he left the DAP stomping his foot.
“Maybe . . . #traitor.”
Apanama added in another tweet that Tunku Aziz should be ashamed of himself “because all that he is doing now is trying very hard to indirectly cover up THE #1MDB #scandal”.
He went on to urge DAP, in another tweet, to “investigate the turncoat Tunku Aziz’s role in the CEC election propaganda”. He directed the tweet at DAP elder statesman Lim Kit Siang and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
When asked about his series of tweets on Tunku Aziz, Firdaus said that he had “no comment”.
He appeared to be reserving his ammunition probably for a new blog posting “to spill the beans” on the former DAP Vice Chairman who left the party after describing it as a “racist set up”. Tunku Aziz seems to have offended not only Firdaus but also former Utusan Malaysia Editor in Chief and onetime Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin.
The Umno-controlled New Straits Times won backhanded praise on Sunday from Zainuddin for reminding its readers that Tunku Aziz, who has called for an investigation into Mahathir, was a former DAP Vice Chairman and “thereby demolishing his credibility”.
Tunku Aziz, once a diplomat and head of Transparency International was now a member of the advisory board of the anti-corruption agency MACC.
Firdaus’ comment on the CEC election was a reference to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) saying, on the eve of the last General Election, that it does not recognise DAP’s newly elected Central Executive Committee (CEC).
“Until the disputed matters are resolved, the RoS under Section 3A of the Societies Act does not recognise the office bearers in DAP, formed by the CEC on Dec 15, 2012,” said the RoS in a letter to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
The RoS also warned that the explanations put forth by the party leadership with regards to the disputed matters must be satisfactory or DAP faced the risk of being de-registered.
The letter was copied to Election Commission chief Abdul Aziz Yusof.
After the CEC election results were announced, none of the eight Malay candidates who contested were elected. However, the DAP announced that there was a technical error in the vote tabulation and declared defeated candidate Zairil Khir Johari Abdullah a duly elected member of the CEC.
