The second rally to be held by the 'red shirts' this weekend at Petaling Street is not intended to threaten or intimidate the public, says Jamal Yunos.
The Sungai Besar Umno division chief said in a statement on Friday that his statement had been sensationalised by the media.
"I would like to clarify that I announced the possibility of a rally without any intention to scare anyone. It has been exaggerated by the media.
"All I wanted to do was voice my annoyance and dissatisfaction over the fact that nothing has been done by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry about the complaints by me and red shirt rally participants," he said.
Stressing that he had nothing to do with organising either rally, Jamal pointed out that he was present in Petaling Street on Sept 16 upon police request.
"The police called me there to assist with dispersing protesters gathered there.
"During negotiations, I played the role of a middleman and the protesters voiced three demands to be addressed by the Ministry," he said.
He said that he was most disappointed by press reports regarding his press conference at the Ampang Jaya police station on Sept 23.
"The purpose of the press conference was to clear the air about all the malicious things said about me while informing the public that I would be taking legal action against all those who defamed me.
"Having said that, I would like to stress that the media only highlights what they feel is necessary, without looking at the whole picture. This can lead to a lot of confusion, so I call for the media to do accurate reporting," he added.
Jamal also said he was merely voicing his concern over the possibility of a riot if a rally actually did take place in Petaling Street on Saturday.
