A memorial service for Kevin Morais was held today at the Nirvana Memorial Centre in Sungai Besi, although the murdered deputy public prosecutor's remains are still at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary.
Family members were to have claimed the body yesterday but details are sketchy as to why they have not done so.
Police said that the family was free to claim the body whenever they wished to but Morais's younger brother Richard has kept mum on their plans.
However, since 10am this morning, many relatives and friends have been arriving at the centre for the memorial service which will continue until Saturday.
Richard and another sibling David arrived separately, at 11.30am and 12pm respectively.
However, they refused to speak with members of the press and went straight to the elevator to head to the second floor, where the service is being held under tight security.
Even friends of the late DPP were questioned by the centre's security before they were allowed to enter the elevator.
Morais, 55, was abducted on September 4 while on his way to work after leaving his home in Menara Duta, Kuala Lumpur, in a government-issued grey Proton Perdana bearing the registration number WA6264Q.
The car was found torched in Perak the next day. His body meanwhile was found on September 16 in a cement-filled oil drum dumped in the river in a secluded area of Subang Jaya, 12 days after he went missing.
Morais was deputy chief of the Appellate and Trial Division in the Attorney-General’s Chambers, and had been seconded to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for a stint.
