The Examinations Syndicate will announce a new format today for the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), The Star reported.
Quoting sources, the report said the new format to test students in Year Six will be similar to the assessment for Form Three students (PT3), where exam and school work are reviewed separately.
This will be a departure from the current UPSR system where students are purely assessed through a final exam in September.
The report said under the new system, the students in national schools will have to sit for six papers instead of the current five, with an additional paper in Science, while vernacular schools students will have to sit for eight instead of the current seven.
According to the report, the new system was in line with the standard curriculum for primary schools (KSSR), implemented in 2011 to replace the primary school integrated curriculum (KBSR), which was introduced in 1983 and reviewed in 2003.
KSSR is said to be pupil-centric and focused on fun learning, critical and creative thinking, reasoning skills as well as communication, and information and communication technology literacy.
