The forming of new opposition pact Pakatan Harapan has no impact on the Selangor government, which includes PAS, despite the Islamist party not being part of the new coalition, state Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin ali said today.
He said Pakatan Harapan was formed as a new pact as part of plans for the opposition to face the next general election, due in 2018.
"It has nothing to do with positions in the Selangor government. It is planning by the political parties to ensure that we can face challenges," Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, told reporters today after the launch of the Wifi Selangorku programme in Shah Alam.
Pakatan Harapan was unveiled today as the new opposition pact that replaces Pakatan Rakyat, which collapsed in June after PAS cut ties with DAP following months of discord.
Opposition leader and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail announced today that Pakatan Harapan would comprise PKR, DAP and new party Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), but not PAS.
After Pakatan Harapan was announced today, Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang said the parties must explain what coalition was ruling Selangor, which the opposition took over from the ruling Barisan Nasional in the 2008 general election.
Tan said Pakatan Harapan owed voters an explanation since PAS was not part of the pact, but had formed the state government together with PKR and DAP.
PAS has three assemblymen in the Selangor exco.
