A replica of the Lord Murugan statue in Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur is to be built in Nepal, with the mammoth statue seen as an important constituent of the massive Hill Eco-City development, Brihat Shantidham, near Kathmandu.
The proposed 33m tall statue is to be built at the highest point of the development and will be named Lord Karthigeya, as he is known locally.
The project officials from Nepal were inspired by the statue in Batu Caves when they visited Malaysia two years ago. Subsequently, they requested a replica be built in Nepal.
On Wednesday, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and a business agreement were signed between Handal Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd and Brihat Shantidham, Nepal, for developing the fully integrated Hill Eco-City based on green technology. The Nepali government regards this as a high priority project and has allocated 170 acres of land for completion.
Handal Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd is appointed as the sole turnkey project consultant for the proposed development, the first of its kind in Asia.
The eco-city is to be built as a spiritual landmark for millions of Hindus living in Nepal and abroad to fulfill their pilgrimage. Reportedly, the eco-city will consist of four huge temples, apart from residential complexes, resorts, Ayurvedic hospital, colleges, dairy farms, a school for human empowerment, a planetarium, and convention centres.
The multibillion dollar development project opens doors to business opportunities for Malaysian firms active in infrastructure, construction, green engineering and technology, electrical, OEM, civil, and utilities industries.
The ceo of Handal Asia Pacific, Dr Barathan Muniyandy said Malaysian firms must utilise this opportunity by taking part in the project, thereby continuing the legacy of overseas success of Malaysian construction and engineering firms.
Shree Chaturbujacharya Chudamani Maharaj, the abbot of Shantidham, presided over the signing ceremony. Dr Ramprsad Upreti, chief adviser, Brihat Shantidham, and Dr Barathan K. Muniyandy of Handal Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd signed and exchanged the MOU and the business agreement for Brihat Shantidham and Handal Pacific Sdn Bhd respectively.
