1MDB nothing to do with Sarawak, says Adenan
KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem has distanced himself and the state from the controversies surrounding the federal investment fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
He said the state government had nothing to do with1MDB and Sarawakians had nothing to be worried about.
“1MDB has nothing to do with Sarawak. I don’t even know what 1MDB was until six months ago,” he said.
Adenan, who was here for the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak event held at Putra World Trade Centre, made his comment in response to a question from a Sarawakian student. Today’s event was attended by thousands of Sarawakians who are studying and living in the city.
Commenting on various allegations regarding 1MDB and Prime Minister Najib Razak, the chief minister urged the public to not jump to any conclusions yet as investigations were continuing.
Since parliament’s watchdog, the Public Accounts Committee, had not completed their hearings yet, it is “unfair for anyone to make their own judgement”, he said.
“The opposition is quite clever for using this issue and then try to associate me with Najib and 1MDB. But honestly, I have nothing to do with it.”
