JOHOR BAHRU: About 60,000 civil servants will enjoy the basic salary of RM1,200 as provided for in the 2016 Budget, according to civil service unionist Azih Muda.
“The adjustment has been long awaited by this group, especially those living in urban areas and those who have just started work, including youths,” he said, adding that Cuepacs, the umbrella body of civil service unions was very satisfied with the salary adjustment.
He said it was hoped the new minimum salary would help civil servants tackle the rising cost of living, especially in the cities.
Azih also said Cuepacs was satisfied with the government’s decision to upgrade 252 schemes of service, fixing the monthly minimum pension at RM950, and giving an additional annual salary increment.
He said the appointment of officers on contract with at least 15 years’ past service was necessary and this group had a right to that opportunity.
Azih also said the new minimum salary adjustment would also change the annual salary increment of civil servants and their pensions.
