KUALA LUMPUR - An Umno leader is confident that nobody will bring up a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the upcoming Umno general assembly in December.
Cheras Umno chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee said that motion was an Opposition’s agenda, and not Umno’s. He said Umno would always support its leadership and as such, there would be no likelihood of such a motion being tabled at the AGM.
“Why must we discuss? We don’t need to discuss. They (the Opposition) are the ones who are not confident but we are.
“That is why we are continuing our journey in the party. We will not entertain the Opposition,” he said if the motion filed by Opposition Chief Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in Parliament on Thursday would be discussed at the AGM. Syed Ali, who is also Federal Territories Umno secretary, added the Opposition was wasting its time doing so.
“They could find no other issue against the Government,” he said after launching the Federal Territories Kembara Ilmu programme here yesterday.
“They (the Opposition) are not doing any work. When people do not do work, they have to find an issue,” he said.
Syed Ali said Umno members were still largely united, although there were a small group of them who were unhappy with Najib’s leadership.
In another development, a dozen Teluk Kemang Umno grassroots leaders have called on Najib to shape up or step down.
Twelve branch leaders from the division in Negri Sembilan, said Najib should step down if he could not clear the air on current issues to restore public confidence.
Group spokesman Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman said the grassroots were unhappy over the sacking of Umno leaders who dared question Najib over issues that were of public concern.
Kamarul said negative public perception against Umno must be countered to avoid taking unnecessary risks when facing the 14th General Election. - ANN
