Traders will have to display the lowest price the item is sold for 28 days before the sale as well as the previous price.
KUALA LUMPUR: Starting next year, cheap sales will only be allowed if more than 70 per cent of the goods are offered for sale.
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Hamzah Zainudin said traders would also have to display the lowest price the item was sold for 28 continuous days before the sale, as well as the previous price.
The notice for the sale must also be displayed and posted at easily-seen places, while details of the goods and prices must be displayed in any form which could be easily seen by consumers, he said at a press conference held by the National Consumer Movement Council, here, today.
He said companies which violated the Trade Description (Cheap Sale Price) (Amendment) Regulations 2015 for the first time could be fined up to RM100,000, and RM200,000 for a subsequent offence, and so on.
“Traders can apply for a notice of cheap sale online via njm.kpdnkk.gov.my,” he said.
He added that consumers could lodge a complaint with the ministry if they had been cheated by traders who held cheap sales but the goods were sold at a high price.
