‘That woman' not pregnant, says Sirul in second video

In a second video to surface allegedly of former police commando Sirul Azhar Umar, the convicted murderer of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu has emphatically denied media reports that a certain unnamed "woman" was pregnant.

"Some media have mentioned, as have been carried by the mass media, including by online media, that uploaded certain facts which are inaccurate.

"What was reported is not true at all; what was reported is false, including the allegation that the woman was pregnant, and was with child at the time.

"It is not true at all. It is not true at all, that the woman was with child, I clarify here," he said, in the same calm monotone as before.

While Sirul did not mention the identity of the woman, he is likely referring to Altantuya, the murder of whom he and his former police partner Azilah Hadri has been convicted of and sentenced to death for.

Azilah now is on death row, awaiting execution pending the outcome of his clemency appeal.

Sirul is languishing in the Villawood immigration detention centre in Sydney after he fled Malaysia and was then detained for an immigration offence by Australian authorities.

He had left Malaysia soon before the Federal Court overturned his earlier acquittal and convicted him and Azilah of the murder, and is now seeking to obtain a "protection visa" that would allow him to step out of detention and live freely in Australia.

‘Pure slander’

The second video - two minutes and twelve seconds long - which Malaysiakini had sighted, was obtained via the same anonymous source as the first video.

It showed Sirul dressed in identical clothing and at what appeared to be the same location as the previous footage.

"Clearly this is provocation, as well as speculation played up by the media, as well as, this internet media, to portray that my case was so terrible and cruel.

“Clearly it can be seen here, as if played up like that, to link it (the case) with a certain someone. As if the baby was fathered by a certain person,” the former commando continued.

"It is all pure slander. I deny it categorically, the statement as well as the reports carried on the internet and in the media, which said that the woman was with child. It is not true at all," he claimed.

As before, Sirul never revealed who the “certain someone” was, that he previously mentioned as being the target of slander by "certain quarters" and "some media", aiming to topple the unnamed person.

However it appears to be an obvious reference to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

In the first video - two minutes and fifty-one seconds long - which Malaysiakini had sighted previously, Sirul repeated his lawyers' earlier allegations that unnamed parties are trying to use him to further their spurious agenda.

Najib's name was brought up in connection to the case but he was cleared from any complicity in the murder by the authorities and continues to vehemently deny any culpability. -Mkini
