Agong displeased with corruption, info leaks

PARLIAMENT The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V has expressed displeasure at corrupt civil servants as well as those who leak government information.
"We are displeased because there continues to be misappropriation, leakages and corruption, as well as the leak of classified government information, including by civil servants and former civil servants," he said.
The monarch said this in his royal address at the opening of the first Parliament meeting of 2017 this morning.
Sultan Muhammad said though only a small number were involved in corruption, it however eroded public confidence in the civil service.
He welcomed efforts to ensure these errant civil servants face justice.
The king's remarks come as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission continues cracking down on the civil service.
Last week, two former top officers at the Federal Land Authority (Felda) were charged with criminal breach of trust involving RM47.6 million in 2014.
The Agong however did not mention any specifics regarding the information leaks.
Meanwhile on another matter, Sultan Muhammad praised government initiatives such as BR1M and 1Malaysia People's Housing programme (PR1MA) which sought to alleviate the burdens of the lower and middle classes.
The monarch also said he was aware that the fall of the ringgit had an impact on the people.
"However, the fall of the ringgit was caused by external and internal factors.
"We believe the government will be fully committed to solving this problem as quickly as possible," he added.
Other government initiatives that received royal endorsement was the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), the Pan-Borneo Highway, and the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) plan.- Mkini
