Private developer Liberty Triangle Sdn Bhd has denied claims that they were behind the recent arson and parang incident in Kampung Chim Lee, Kuala Lumpur.
"We had absolutely nothing to do with it," a representative from Liberty Triangle told Malaysiakini yesterday.
He was responding to villagers who lodged a police report on Wednesday, claiming the developer was behind a recent arson incident, as well as sending a group of men to harass them.
Malaysiakini was also informed there is an ongoing court case between the residents and the developer over the land.
Villagers had earlier claimed the land was given to them by Chim Lee Tin Mining Co in 1979.
However, on Jan 4 last year, the villagers were informed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) that the land they reside on is being converted from residential to commercial development for the construction of affordable apartments.
The residents received an eviction notice last June 6, giving them seven days to vacate and to tear down any structures they have built on the land.
They received an offer of compensation from the developer, but said they have rejected the offer.
Liberty Triangle's lawyer is expected to issue a statement clarifying this matter soon.- Mkini
