The head of a Selangor welfare foundation has engaged a lawyer, two days after Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos questioned his appointment.
Kamsani Nasir, who is the Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) general manager, said he was unable to respond to Jamal's allegations as he was dealing with lawyers.
Asked whether he was taking legal action against Jamal, Kamsani told Malaysiakini: "InsyaAllah it is being sorted out."
Jamal on Tuesday demanded an explanation as to why Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali had appointed Kamsani as Yawas general manager - despite the latter being a bankrupt.
He also questioned whether Kamsani's appointment was related to corruption allegations surrounding Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE).
Kamsani was previously SMUE chief operating officer.
A check by Malaysiakini verified that an individual named Kamsani Nasir was declared bankrupt by the Insolvency Department. The bankruptcy order was made in 2008.
Kamsani however when asked to verify this, said that his lawyer will make an announcement on it.
Jamal had previously lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) alleging that funds had been misappropriated from SMUE, which is a programme managed by Yawas.
SMUE is a scheme in which senior citizens can nominate a beneficiary who would receive RM2,500 for funeral or other expenses.- Mkini
