DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang taking up the position of deputy prime minister should BN lose grip of Putrajaya was a certainty, according Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
In his speech at Sindumin, Sabah yesterday, Najib said this had already been agreed on between Lim and Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the chairperson of Parti Pribumi Bersatu, although no decision was made on who should be prime minister.
Najib said that this "ali baba" arrangement, if successful, would make Lim incredibly powerful as he would be able to choose who would be prime minister.
"It is strange because they only agreed on the deputy prime minister's position. (This person) will become the most powerful individual in deciding who will become prime minister.
"Pakatan Harapan has only agreed on who will be deputy prime minister, not the prime minister. Who will it be? (Dr) Wan Azizah (Wan Ismail)? Anwar (Ibrahim)? Muhyiddin (Yassin)?
"What was strange was that the deputy prime minister will appoint the prime minister. This is 'ali baba'. The opposition is 'ali baba'.
"This proved that Pakatan Harapan has failed as a coalition as compared to BN, which has achieved consensus among its 13 components," said Najib according to Utusan Malaysia today.
Najib was referring to allegations by former DAP vice-chairperson Tunku Aziz Tunku Ibrahim that Mahathir and Lim and reached an agreement on the country's top two positions.
Meanwhile, Najib called his opponents liars with a dash of local flair by using the colloquial Sabah term for "cheats".
"Pakatan Harapan only makes empty promises. Pakatan Harapan 'membuyuk' (are cheats). Buyuk sounds more appropriate. In peninsular Malaysia we say 'temberang'.
"In Sabah, people here are good. There are only a few 'buyuk' (cheats) here. The rest are grateful and support the government," he said.-Mkini
