My comments : I recall a friend and I were present at the Vote Counting Centre the night Ong Tee Keat defeated Dato Harun Idris for the Ampang Jaya Parliamentary seat circa 1989. At that time I ran a business in Ampang City, Jalan Ampang.
That was the time of the Semangat 46 - UMNO split. Dato Harun Idris was Semangat 46.
There was a huge crowd waiting at the Dewan. I recall as soon as the results were announced all the good people got up and quietly left to go back home.
The baddies let off firecrackers and started creating a ruckus. The FRU quickly moved in and cordoned off the entrance to the Dewan.
The MCA has the full support of almost all the Chinese guilds, associations, Chambers of Commerce and other organisations. It is a towkay's party. As long as the MCA is a part of the Federal gomen, they will continue to enjoy the supports of the Chinese guilds and chambers.
But the DAP gets more Chinese votes than the MCA. Its a win-win situation.
We need more win-win situations in Malaysia.
