Perlis executive councillor in charge of health Jafperi Othman denied today that a Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) recipent fainted in the state yesterday.
Instead, Jafperi said, the person became giddy because she had skipped her breakfast.
"She did not faint, she felt giddy because she didn't eat anything. It's not something that should end up in the news," he told Malaysiakini.
Jafperi said he was disappointed with those who made social media postings of the incident, without first verifying what happened.
"Normally these kinds of people want an incident like this to go viral," he said.
Jafperi also hoped that BR1M would be transferred directly into the bank accounts of recipients in the future, to ease the process.
Yesterday, Perlis PKR chief Mohammad Faisol Abdul Rahman urged the state to explain why it decided to hand out the financial aid instead of transferring it into bank accounts of the recipients.
"There are those more powerful than the menteri besar. This is proven when the Perlis MB in his Facebook account said it was not the state's decision. Then whose was it?" Mohammad Faisol asked in a Facebook posting.
He also shared pictures of long queues of BR1M recipients waiting to get aid.
One photo showed a middle-aged woman being lifted on a stretcher by members of the Public Service Department.
Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man said on Feb 23 said that the manual handing-out of BR1M 2016 was not decided by the state, that it was asked to do so.
Azlan said this move was to speed up the distribution process of the financial aid and Unit Pentadbiran Daerah (UPD) was tasked to coordinate the provision by the Parliament separately.
A total of 52,212 BR1M recipients are to receive the financial aid in stages in Perlis this year - 20,264 in Kangar, 15,957 and 15,991 in Arau and Padang Besar respectively.- Mkini
