The police have acknowledged the outpouring of support and appreciation for their work throughout the election campaign.
"All police personnel express their appreciation and thanks to Malaysians, especially netizens who expressed their appreciation for our work during the election campaign," said the police in a statement today.
The police also thanked all Malaysians for their support and co-operation in maintaining security in Malaysia.
Several netizens have uploaded photographs of police who had to sleep rough while on duty during polling day.
"Our real heroes for today. Congratulations to the police for ensuring a smooth election.
"You have my full respect," wrote a netizen, Ahmad Faroki, on Facebook. -Mkini
