PETALING JAYA: An Amanah leader has questioned the Teregganu state government’s silence over an alleged Covid-19 outbreak at a hotel in the state capital.
Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah, the Terengganu Amanah chairman, said 33 staff members of a hotel in Kuala Terengganu owned by the state government have tested positive for Covid-19 since Aug 30.
“Among those reported to be involved include staff from the kitchen, reception, security, maintenance, stewards and cleaners,” he said in a statement.
“However, the question arises as to why no public announcements have been made regarding the positive cases.
“As of today, walk-in guests and regular customers from an oil and gas company are still allowed to stay at the hotel. Why is the hotel still not closed?.”
Noting that the state has officially opened the hotel and tourism sector to locals from Sept 1, Raja Kamarul said the Terengganu government needs to have a “more responsible attitude” to protect the public from the risk of Covid-19 infection – especially since they own the hotel.
A representative from the hotel chose not to comment for this story.
