Former deputy agriculture and food industries minister Che Abdullah Mat Nawi has lodged a police report today after he was accused of corruption and abusing his powers by a social media user named "Kudin Tumpat".
The report was lodged about 11am at the district police headquarters in Tumpat, Kelantan, after Abdullah (above) realised the accusations had gone viral on social media yesterday, Sept 5.
His lawyer, Muhammad Khairul Azwan Azhan, said the accusations were meant to sully the good name of the Tumpat MP and his machinery.
“He (Abdullah) is against the character assassination, witch hunting, trial by media, selective prosecution and prejudice which had happened, is currently happening and will happen with the viral accusations on social media.
“This goes against Articles 3, 5, 9, 10 and 11 of the Federal Constitution, which guarantee innocence until proven guilty.
“So it is clear that these are mere accusations which can be a crime. This case is still under police investigation and it cannot be proven whether he (Abdullah) is guilty or not,” the lawyer said to reporters when met at the Tumpat IPD.
Khairul also urged everyone to politick maturely, in line with the country’s laws.
Meanwhile, in the report, Abdullah said he lodged such a report to stress that he has carried out his duties in line with the government procurement protocols as issued by the National Treasury.
“I support transparency and the investigation by the authorities in line with the laws of Malaysia,” he said.
Abdullah added that he made this report to stop the spread of the accusations against him and the government machinery that was under his supervision back when he held his position as deputy minister. - Mkini
