PETALING JAYA: Police have launched a probe into a 24-second video of a policeman allegedly extorting bribe from a Singaporean.
The video shows a police patrol car with a man standing outside. He later claimed he was stopped by the police for several “offences”, including “driving in the opposite direction and without a valid driving licence to drive in Malaysia”.
According to Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya, preliminary investigations showed the incident happened near the LaLaport shopping centre along Jalan Pudu on April 10.
The vehicle number of the patrol car in question is also visible at one point in the video.
“A detailed investigation was conducted as soon as the video was posted and spread on Facebook today,” he said.
He urged the public to come forward if they had any information on the incident to assist with the investigation.
“Police will not compromise in their investigation if any police officers are involved in this,” he said.
Anyone with information on this can contact Jaya Dalloh from the integrity and standards compliance division at 014-6396758, Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD) at 03-2600 2222, Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters hotline at 03-2115 9999, or any police station. - FMT
