Police have arrested a suspected rapist, 12 years after the sexual assault occurred.
Federal CID director Abd Jalil Hassan said DNA testing enabled police to identify the suspect, leading to the man’s arrest at a goat farm in Penang yesterday.
The man, aged 40, is accused of raping a woman who was 15-years-old at the time of the assault, at a workshop in Sungai Pinang, Balik Pulau.
Police have secured a six-day remand against the man, starting today to April 13.
“Police have never given up in our efforts to get the latest developments in a case until we have succeeded in identifying the suspects involved so they can face justice,” Jalil said in a statement today.
Investigation papers are being completed to be sent to prosecutors, he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
The section carries a punishment of between 10 to 30 years imprisonment with whipping. - Mkini
