Former transport minister Anthony Loke has urged the government to make public the outcome of an investigation into a Malaysia Airlines flight that passengers reportedly said was momentarily in a “diving” position.
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH2664 departed from Kuala Lumpur on April 3 and was bound for Tawau, Sabah but later turned back to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) due to a “technical” issue.
“The incident must be thoroughly investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM). I am confident that CAAM has already begun the investigation process.
“To inspire public confidence, the outcome of the investigation must be transparent.
“I urge the transport minister (Wee Ka Siong) to make a public commitment for an open investigation and any outcome should be announced in the near future,” Loke (above) said in a statement.
Three passengers had criticised Malaysia Airlines’ description of the incident, disputing that the unspecified technical issue was “compounded by bad weather”.
The passengers claimed that the weather was good at the time and the seat belt sign was off.
However, they said when food was being served, the plane “suddenly went out of control”.
“I am sure the plane was in a diving position. At that time, only death came to mind with other passengers screaming and crying,” passenger Abdul Rahim Awang Nong had said. - Mkini
