Putrajaya has been urged to declassify the Special Investigation Committee on Public Governance, Procurement and Finance report, which was headed by then auditor-general Ambrin Buang, on the government procurement of littoral combat ships (LCS).
The call was made by former defence minister Mohamad Sabu (above, left) and former deputy defence minister Liew Chin Tong today.
This followed the cabinet's decision to proceed with the project involving the delivery of the LCS by Boustead Holdings Bhd, which was originally targeted for 2019.
Mohamad and Liew urged Putrajaya to reveal the additional cost involved in the project and the new timeline.
The duo also called on the government to instruct the Public Accounts Committee to table its report on the LCS project to Parliament immediately.
The Special Investigation Committee on Public Governance, Procurement and Finance was formed in 2020. The LCS project was among government procurements being investigated.
Boustead was awarded the job in 2011 and RM6 billion was paid as of 2020 but it missed the targeted delivery date of 2019.
The total value of the project was RM9 billion.
Mohamad and Liew said that on Feb 11, 2020, they, along with Ambrin, had briefed the then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad on the way forward for the LCS project.
Among other matters, the duo claimed that suggestions to investigate and charge those culpable in the delays were recommended to the prime minister, as was a suggestion that the LCS project be continued.
However, the Harapan administration collapsed two weeks later.
Nearly 11 years after the incident, no one has been brought to justice over the LCS saga. However, two company chief executive officers had been investigated. - Mkini
