List of 3.2k rejected contract doctors to be sent for final screening

The Public Services Commission (SPA) has agreed to hand over to the Health Ministry a list of 3,281 contract medical officers who were rejected for permanent positions.

The Health Ministry will then conduct a final screening based on their own additional requirements, the SPA said.

The commission explained there are four requirements:

A. Being a Malaysian citizen, aged above 18, owning a medical degree in a local higher education institution or an accredited equivalent, and fully registered with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC)

B. Malay language requirement

C. Conditions set by the Health Ministry such as candidates who are under contract with the ministry, candidates who have completed their training, candidates who are contract officers between the years 2016 to 2018, candidates who have never resigned, been disciplined during the contract period, or had their service ended, as well as candidates who have never turned down a permanent position offer

D. Additional requirements by the Health Ministry for candidates to have earned a degree and full registration with the MMC on or before the closing date for the application

The SPA said the 3,281 candidates were mostly those who failed to provide complete information in their application or did not have full registration with the MMC.

“Based on the complaints from the candidates that there were no specific guidelines for the matters mentioned, the commission has agreed to provide the list of 3,281 candidates who failed to pass the screening… to the Health Ministry for final screening based on the set conditions.

“If the Health Ministry’s checks find the candidates have fulfilled all the requirements from A to D, the candidate’s status will be updated and they will be called in for an interview,” the SPA said in a statement today.

Candidates can check for updates on their applications starting April 22.

The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) previously cited “technical issues” as among the reasons the doctors’ applications to the SPA were rejected.

The SPA earlier said the main reason the applicants were rejected was that they failed to list their MMC details in their applications. - Mkini
