PENAMPANG: A 57-year-old man collapsed while playing football at the Penampang Sports Complex here yesterday, and later died while receiving treatment.
In the 6pm incident, the man, who was playing as a goalkeeper, suddenly collapsed and fell unconscious after throwing the ball to his teammates.
Penampang district police chief Mohd Haris Ibrahim said the man’s friends went to his aid immediately and found that he still had a pulse.
The Penampang fire and rescue department was dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call, and administered respiratory assistance to the victim before he was taken to Hospital Queen Elizabeth 1 (QEH1) in Kota Kinabalu.
“However, the victim was confirmed to have died while receiving treatment at QEH1’s emergency department,” he told FMT.
The body was sent to QEH1’s forensic department for an autopsy. The case has been classified as sudden death. - FMT
