PAS leaks: Police to question all politicians named in meeting minutes

Police will summon all the politicians mentioned in purported meeting minutes dubbed as the “PAS leaks” document, which detailed alleged political ploys involving two of the Islamist party’s leaders.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim said police have begun investigating the document.

They are pursuing the matter following a report lodged by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi last week.

"We have launched an investigation into the case.

"Yes, police will record statements from all the individuals named in the document," he said in a text message in response to Malaysiakini's query about the case today.

Azmi however did not elaborate further on the timing for the politicians to be called for statement recording, or if any of them had already come forward.

The purported leaked document contained the alleged findings of two PAS leaders after they visited various figures from Umno, Bersatu and Pejuang.

The names mentioned include several MPs and cabinet ministers.

Among others, the document mentioned alleged discussions about expediting court cases involving certain Umno leaders. This prompted Zahid, who is facing criminal charges in court, to lodge a report urging the police to investigate the allegations.

One of the two PAS leaders named in the document - Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar - has denied the contents of the document and described it as "rubbish".

However, the PAS vice-president conceded that the meetings described in the document did take place, but the summaries of the alleged conversations were fictitious.

Malaysiakini is unable to verify the contents of the purported leaked document but has attempted to contact every individual named in the document and is waiting for their response. - Mkini
