PEKAN: A police patrol car was completely destroyed after it was allegedly set on fire by a plantation worker at Kampung Silicon in Nenasi near here yesterday.
However, no injuries were reported during the incident which occurred just before midnight.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Ismail Abdul Ghani said a fire engine along with seven firemen from the Nenasi fire station were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at about 11.47pm.
"However, firemen could not immediately go to the scene to douse the fire due to safety concerns before police later allowed them to enter the site when the situation was declared safe.
"The Proton Waja patrol car was 100 percent destroyed. It was alleged that a plantation worker who was running amok had torched the patrol car," he said in a statement today.
Ismail said the fire and rescue department was carrying out investigations including engaging the services of the department's Dog Unit (K9) at the site.
It remains unclear on why the firemen were initially prevented from getting near the burning car to douse the fire.
Meanwhile Pekan police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin when contacted said police will be issuing a statement on the incident. - NST
