ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police will thoroughly investigate the death of three teenagers, reportedly killed while racing their motorcycles in Pasir Gudang recently, with family members claiming that the deceased did not take part in any race.
Another teenager was seriously injured in the incident at about 10.30pm on Friday (April 22).
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the area in Jalan Delima, Taman Kota Masai was notorious for speeding cases as the road was straight and clear of obstructions.
“The scene of the accident does not have any obstacles, so there might be those who took advantage of that situation (to race).
“However, we will investigate the case thoroughly as we have been informed by the family members that their kids did not participate in any race.
"I hope the families will be patient,” he said after the handing over cereony for the the Iskandar Puteri OCPD's post at district police headquarters here on Sunday (April 24).
He added that the initial investigation revealed that the three deceased were friends.
“Speed may not be the issue, and there might be a possibility that one of the motorcycles might have fallen (in the path of the others).
“My advice to parents and family members is to look after each other and drive or ride carefully.
“Do not be tempted when there is a group or individual provoking us to race. We might end up being the victim,” he added.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak had said earlier that the incident involved three motorcycles.
"Initial investigations showed that it happened when the victims, including pillion riders, were competing among themselves.
"The motorcycles brushed against each other, causing the accident. Three victims were thrown to the left side of the road, and another to the right,” he said. - Star
