Pulling dog while driving: Mother, son called up by cops

JOHOR BARU: Police have recorded the statements of a mother and son after a video went viral showing a dog being pulled beside a moving car.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Rupiah Abd Wahid said the nine-second video that made rounds on social media on Saturday (April 9), showed the dog being pulled by an individual sitting in the passenger seat of the white car.

She said the incident took place at a residential area in Taman Sri Skudai and police managed to identify the 34-year-old man and his 61-year-old mother.

“They were brought to the Johor Baru North police headquarters for questioning and according to the suspects, the incident happened at around 2pm the day before.

“The dog, which belongs to the suspects, had apparently gone missing earlier and was later found in the residential area.

“The male suspect did not want to let the dog into the car, which belonged to his brother-in-law, as the animal was quite dirty and they lived nearby.

“His mother decided to tie a leash on the dog through the car window while the man drove the vehicle slowly with the dog running alongside it,” she said.

ACP Rupiah added that the suspects were released on police bail after their statements were recorded.

The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code/Section 44(1) of the Animals Act 1953.

She said investigation papers have been referred to the deputy public prosecutor’s office for follow up.

She also urged those with more information about the incident to contact the Johor Baru North police headquarters at 07-5563 122. - Star
