SRC case: Najib’s full 94-ground petition of appeal

Following the Federal Court’s green light for Najib Abdul Razak to be given additional time to file a petition of appeal in the RM42 million SRC International corruption case, his lawyers complied by filing it later yesterday.

The appeal petition contained 94 grounds, including that both the Kuala Lumpur High Court and Court of Appeal had used their own logic and rationale in contravention of evidence that exonerated the former premier from the seven counts of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust (CBT), and money laundering.

Najib was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years in jail and an RM210 million fine by the High Court in July 2020. The former finance minister’s conviction and punishment were upheld by the Court of Appeal in December last year.

However, there is a stay of execution on the sentences pending disposal of Najib’s appeal.

On April 11, the Pekan MP applied for an extension to file the appeal no later than April 25 as his lawyers had to go through a large volume of records to prepare a complete appeal petition, which the apex court allowed yesterday.

Enclosed are the full grounds of the petition of appeal made available to the media yesterday.
