PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested two men on a motorcycle who were believed to have hit a foreign student after she used her mobile phone to record them catcalling her.
Sentul police chief Beh Eng Lai said the 34-year-old motorcycle rider and the pillion rider, aged 32, were arrested in Jinjang Utara, Kepong. Both men had previous offences on their record.
The rider admitted to hitting the woman with a stick. He also admitted catcalling her and said he had attacked the woman after she began recording him, Beh said, according to Malaysiakini.
Yesterday, Beh told FMT that the incident took place in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kiaramas at Persiaran Dutamas.
The student said in an online posting that she and a friend had been catcalled by two men on a motorcycle while walking to the Publika shopping centre.
The men approached the women on their motorcycle repeatedly, prompting the women to run to a nearby school.
“One of the men (wearing white) jumped off his bike and ran to attack us. My friend managed to escape but I didn’t. He slipped and fell as he took a swing at me with a large stick. I took that opportunity to beat him while he was down.
“He bit my arm and then his friend jumped off the bike to attack me, so I turned to run. I wasn’t fast enough and felt one of them hit me on my back with the stick,” she said in her posting.
A security guard opened the school gate for the women but by then the men had escaped. - FMT
