Umno and Bersatu have “divorced” and will not collaborate again, said Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.
He confirmed that Umno will not work together with Bersatu in the highly anticipated 15th general election.
“We are no longer cooperating with Bersatu, it is well known and was mentioned in the 2021 Umno general assembly. There were no exchanges in that regard.
"We are 'divorced' for many reasons, including the introduction of Bersatu, which defeated us in GE14. They said all kinds of things about us at the time,” Ahmad (above) was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
The Pontian MP added that Bersatu’s act of taking former Umno MPs and assemblypersons when they defected made it difficult for them to work together.
Ahmad said currently among 31 Bersatu seats in Parliament, only six were original seats, 10 were from PKR, and 15 were from Umno.
He claimed that Bersatu wanted to replace Umno because they adopted many Umno characteristics.
“They want to take over Umno because a majority of them were Umno members. They also took our names and colours.
“Bersatu is (part of) Umno’s tagline which is Bersatu, Bersetia, Berkhidmat,” he said.
Ahmad added that he did not foresee other opposition parties working with Bersatu due to different goals. - Mkini
