Widow’s RM1bil claim on JJ’s estate to be heard on July 18

Jamaluddin Jarjis’ mother, Aminah Abdullah, is a party to claims on the former minister’s estate.

KUALA LUMPUR: The shariah high court has set July 18 to hear the claim for matrimonial property worth RM1 billion filed by Kalsom Ismail, the widow of former Cabinet member Jamaludin Jarjis, who was killed in a helicopter crash in 2015.

Shariah lawyer Nur Hidayah A Bakar, who represented Jamaludin’s mother, Aminah Abdullah, 88, told reporters this when met after the proceedings before shariah judge Haznita Hamidon.

Nur Hidayah said the court ordered all parties today to resolve an issue on the amendments to the statement of claim.

“The shariah judge ordered the second amendment (to the statement of claim) to be settled first, and the court set July 18 for the next hearing date,” she said.

Following the adjournment of the case for the third time, Nur Hidayah said she applied for Kalsom to pay the costs.

“However, the syarie judge decided that the cost will be fixed at the end of the case,” she said.

Kalsom, 66, was represented by Sulaiman Abdullah. She is claiming for matrimonial property, including assets in Malaysia, the US and Makkah, as well as several companies.

It is understood that Kalsom had filed the matrimonial property claim in 2018 and named her four children – Ikwan Hafiz, Nur Anis, Nurul Alyaa and Noor Adilla – as defendants.

Jamaludin, who was also the former Malaysian ambassador to the US, was killed on April 4, 2015, when the helicopter he was travelling in from Pekan, Pahang, to Kuala Lumpur crashed at Kampung Sungai Pening in Semenyih, Selangor.

Also killed were the pilot, Captain Clifford William Fournier, former prime minister Najib Razak’s private secretary Azlin Alias, businessman Tan Huat Seang, Jamaludin’s personal aide Razakan Seran and a woman known as Aidana Baizieva. - FMT
