Selangor Umno ties with top leadership is fine - supreme council member

An Umno supreme council member has urged party supporters and watchers to not jump the gun over Selangor Umno's relationship with the party's top leadership.

Arman Azha Abu Hanifah (above), in a video posted to his social media accounts, said the issue of Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar issuing statements that were in conflict with party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi did not arise.

He said he was confident of this because he was privy to discussions both at the supreme council, because he is a council member, and state leadership level because he is the Subang Umno division leader.

"There is no issue with Selangor Umno issuing statements which were in conflict with the party president.

"(Such claims are made by) those outside the party who are trying to create discord... To me, Selangor Umno and BN's views are consistent with those of the top leadership," he said.

Noh had on several occasions said that Selangor Umno will uphold the Muafakat Nasional pact in the state through electoral cooperation with PAS.

His statement comes at a time when Zahid has repeatedly signalled that PAS was not a trustworthy partner.

Officially, the Muafakat pact between Umno and PAS has not ceased, but some Umno leaders believe that it exists in name only after the two parties failed to cooperate during the Malacca and Johor elections.

Some state Umno chapters such as in Terengganu have frozen their ties with PAS.

Dynamic political landscape

Arman said the political landscape in Selangor was very dynamic and unique, therefore the state Umno leadership should be allowed to explore options.

He described Selangor as a Pakatan Harapan stronghold and Noh's position was derived after consulting all Umno division leaders in the state.

Arman added that Selangor Umno's cooperation with their PAS counterparts had never wavered.

"I hope that the leadership and supporters do not jump the gun (after) listening to stories out there that are aimed at causing fissures.

"(The state Umno) leadership had been strategising and planning our return in Selangor and ways for us to oust the Harapan government," he said. - Mkini
