Ask what PAS did for the country, Rara tells Pahang voters

Young Syefura Othman is in a five-cornered fight for Bentong. Among her rivals are former MCA president Liow Tiong Lai and the former Bentong MP, Wong Tack, now seeking re-election as an independent.

PETALING JAYA: Voters should question what overall contributions have been made by PAS, even when the Islamic party formed an electoral pact with Barisan Nasional three years ago, says Pakatan Harapan candidate for Bentong, Young Syefura Othman.

She said PAS had often focussed on sensitive issues, which had led to accusations by the public that it was a racist party.

“But young people have more pressing issues that need to be solved such as the economy, low wages, unemployment, and housing,” she said.

Young Syefura, also known as Rara, hoped the public would realise that PH could offer more and would do whatever was needed if the coalition wins power at the general election.

However, she said there was no denying PAS’ influence in Pahang and that the competition will be stiff now that Perikatan Nasional, which comprises PAS and Bersatu, will be contesting all 14 parliamentary seats in the state.

Young Syefura also said that Bersatu, led by Muhyiddin Yassin, was riding on the Islamic party’s coattails as Bersatu did not have much support.

She said PH intended to remind voters about the Sheraton Move, in which a faction of PKR leaders quit the party and triggered the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government in 2020.

Among those who had defected was Saifuddin Abdullah, who joined Bersatu and is seeking re-election in Indera Mahkota.

“I hope the people remember this and they don’t waste their time with them,” she said.

On facing off with former MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, Young Syefura acknowledged that it will be difficult but welcomed it.

“The Bentong constituents can decide for themselves if they want an MP like Liow who shows up now and again or if they want a young representative like myself who is always in Bentong.”

Young Syefura will be involved in a five-cornered fight in the constituency.

Apart from Liow, she is also going up against Wong Tack, the former Bentong MP now seeking re-election as an independent, Roslan Hassan (PN) and Achik Khalil (independent). - FMT
