Clash of opinions good to avoid having yes men, says Rafizi

Rafizi Ramli said his having different views from Anwar Ibrahim did not mean the party was falling apart.

KUALA LUMPUR: Having a difference of opinion within a party is important to avoid creating yes men, says PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli.

He said many people were quick to assume that the party was falling apart just because he and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim have disagreements.

“People will say that we aren’t disciplined and that we can’t work together. But that’s not true,” he said during an Ayuh Malaysia rally here last night.

On Thursday, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had urged Rafizi to stop talking in public about the party’s selection process for election candidates after Rafizi had said he and Anwar had different views about candidate selection.

Rafizi said a government that is not open minded would end up becoming like former prime minister Najib Razak’s administration which he said comprised “a bunch of yes men”.

He alleged that “Najib stole billions of ringgit” and no one in his government dared to say anything.

Rafizi said a difference of opinion was important for growth and that was why Pakatan Harapan chose as candidates skilled individuals who are not afraid to question things.

“This is the best way to ensure that we don’t fall back into Najib’s old habits,” he said. - FMT
