The government should not impose any conditions on providing financial allocations for opposition MPs, Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan has said.
This, according to the PAS lawmaker, is because Pakatan Harapan had made such a pledge in its manifesto prior to the 15th general election.
“I don’t see the need for the government to complicate the process, because PN MPs receive applications from the rakyat for funds for many reasons but we are unable to help as we don’t receive any help from the federal government.
“We hope the government will be more concerned and act the soonest possible on the matter as this coming October, there will be another budget presentation,” Sinar Harian quoted him telling reporters after attending a Hari Raya open house in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, yesterday.
The financial allocation should be unconditional as the funds will be channelled straight to the rakyat, and not MPs, he added.
According to Takiyuddin (above), who is also Kota Bharu MP, he and opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin will meet with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to discuss the matter.

Last week, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof said that he is still waiting for an official application from the opposition bloc to discuss the issue of financial allocations for its MPs.
“I have told them (PN) to make an offer (application) in black and white. So long as we haven’t received an official letter, there won’t be any negotiations,” he was quoted saying.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi later announced that the government has agreed in principle to provide an allocation for opposition MPs, but only for their administrative expenses.
Previously, under the Ismail Sabri Yaakob administration, (the then opposition) Harapan inked a landmark memorandum with the government which, among others, sought to provide equal allocation for all MPs. - Mkini
