PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was proclaimed the president of the Scouts Association of Malaysia today.
Anwar was also conferred the association’s highest award – the Anugerah Bintang Semangat Padi Emas – bestowed only on national and state leaders.
The proclamation and conferment were carried out by the acting national chief scout and national chief scout commissioner, Maj-Gen (R) Zin Bidin, at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Also present were National Scout Council deputy president Ahmad Shazily Ismail Bakti and treasurer Abdullah Taib.
Zin said the proclamation of Anwar as the association’s president will strengthen its image and role as the largest informal educational organisation in the country.
“It is also hoped that the proclamation will attract more youths at the university and school levels to join the scouts’ association as we already have a solid training system,” he said. - FMT
