Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that parties who wanted the coalition government to fall were “jealous”.
Asyraf, who is also the coalition government secretariat chief, insisted that the 148 MPs supportive of the administration are still working together and conducting negotiations.
"We are not a 'one-man show'... There is no party that dominates the other party; we mould each other and there is always room.
"It's normal for people who are not happy with the existing power to be jealous of not being able to form a government earlier," he said during the 'Unity Government National Convention' at the World Trade Centre (WTC), Kuala Lumpur today.
On May 3, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar expressed concern over reports of instability within the government months after the 15th general election (GE15).
Through a statement made on Facebook, the Johor ruler said that the people had high hopes during the election and cast their votes to elect 222 MPs to restore stability in the country.
However, he said until now all the 222 MPs involved still cannot agree, with attempts made to thwart the stability being carefully built.
Prior to this, Bersatu’s Muhammad Faiz Na'aman sparked speculation by hinting that his party had enough support to form a government.
But Asyraf (above) rejected the claim that the coalition government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is currently in turmoil.
"The 148 MPs who signed the memorandum of understanding of the unity government still remain strong and the most important thing is that discussions are always ongoing, not every month, but every week," he added.
When asked about the preparations for the state elections, Asyraf said that negotiations for seat allocations were going on positively.
He also said that there is an overlap of seats between BN and Pakatan Harapan.
"So far, the cooperation between Harapan and BN has been very good. There is an overlap because previously BN contested against Harapan.
"But discussions are ongoing. I received a report that we can say is very positive and constructive," he added.
Commenting on the convention, Asyraf said 10,000 were expected to attend it which will be held on May 14.
He said that all the component parties involved in the coalition government will be involved in the convention. - Mkini
