KUALA LUMPUR: Pas' and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) influence is slowly eroding, and they are now clinging on the strength of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed.

PKR communications director Lee Chean Chung said this is evident when Bersatu started to echo Dr Mahathir's calls for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to declare the wealth he allegedly amassed during his time as deputy prime minister and finance minister in the past.

He said the tlack of support towards both party's became even clearer when Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang signed Dr Mahathir's Malay Proclamation recently.

"It is odd that their leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was sidelined and even opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, who is also from Perikatan Nasional, were also being left out to give space to Dr Mahathir.

"Congratulations to Dr Mahathir for becoming the PN's de facto leader," he said in a statement today.

He clarified that Anwar had eclared his assets prior to the 15th General Election (GE15), and so any call for the prime minister to do so now did not make sense.

He said Anwar declared his assets on Nov 9 last year, and other PKR candidates also did the same before the election kicked off.

Lee urged Pas and Bersatu to look in the mirror, especially with the Bersatu's bank account filled with monies allegedly accumulated when the country was facing the Covid-19 pandemic, and the fact their leader Muhyiddin is now facing corruption charges.

"The people should evaluate PN leaders openly.

"It is clear that their focus is not to improve the economy and ease the people's burden. Their political game is opportunism as they are willing to work with anyone to remain relevant," he said.

Last week, a political aide to Dr Mahathir, Abu Bakar Yahya posted several photos of Pas leaders, including Hadi, signing the Malay Proclamation document. (https://www.nst.com.my/news/politics/2023/05/905345/pas-leaders-sign-dr-...) - NST
