Hamzah: Minister’s ‘gambling funds’ reply proves Anwar slandered PN

Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin has leapt on the response by Azalina Othman Said indicating that the MACC was unable to verify claims that Perikatan Nasional (PN) had used proceeds from gambling companies for its 15th general election (GE15) campaign.

Hamzah (above) said that the statement by the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) proved that the government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had committed slander.

It should be noted that Azalina herself urged all quarters to refrain from politicising or twisting her statement, adding that the anti-graft agency did not open an investigation paper into the allegation for the time being as the information garnered was very general, but it does not mean it would be status quo.

“I would like to stress that the answer I gave in Dewan Rakyat on behalf of the MACC did not state that investigations into the matter have been discontinued or dropped.

“On the contrary, MACC just stated that no investigation paper was opened since the information garnered thus far is too general,” she said in a statement today.

Hamzah, on the other hand, insisted that her written answer to the Dewan Rakyat, dated May 25, 2023, meant that Anwar’s accusations against PN last December were fabrications.

“Just as he guiltlessly lied to the people with various promises that were not fulfilled such as the promise to lower the price of oil, the promise to solve the cost of living, the promise to fight nepotism, and the promise to fight corruption but appointed a deputy prime minister (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) who is defending himself against 47 charges in court.

“The tyranny of Anwar needs to be fully punished by the people, especially in the elections in six states that will take place soon, and we in PN as explained by (former prime minister) Muhyiddin Yassin in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, today, are considering legal action against Anwar,” said Hamzah in a statement.

He continued to portray the prosecution of Bersatu and PN leaders, especially Muhyiddin as “a continuation of the series of lies, slander, and evil conspiracy of the Pakatan Harapan-BN coalition government by abusing enforcement agencies and the court system.

“The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. The case against a Chinese businessperson was processed with malicious intent to make it appear as if I was also involved,” he alleged.

“All of that is slander and my officers have already made a police report against the parties who pressured and interfered in MACC affairs,” claimed Hamzah.

Earlier this month, Hamzah, who is former home minister, lodged a police report over being linked to four corruption charges in the case of a “Datuk Seri” who had solicited an RM15 million bribe for a ministry project. - Mkini
